Our Vision

To unite the Associated Student Body of Santa Barbara City College through dedication, diligence, representation, and involvement.

Our Mission

Through forward thinking, effective communication and active representation, the Student Senate will develop an integrated community that is empowered to build a greater Santa Barbara City College.

ASG advocates for SBCC students college-wide, locally, and statewide.

COLLEGE-WIDE
ASG Officers serve on over 30 college governance groups, including the Academic Senate, College Planning Council, and Board of Trustees, as well as college hiring committees. Our priority is to represent students' diverse perspectives in decision-making.

ISLA VISTA
In Isla Vista, ASG participates in the Isla Vista Community Service District, Recreation & Park District, and Tenant Union, and works closely with the Associated Students of UCSB.

SANTA BARBARA
ASG works with the Santa Barbara City Council, County Sheriff, and County Board of Supervisors on issues important to SBCC students.

STATEWIDE
ASG is deeply involved in statewide affairs. Each semester, ASG participates in the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, the body that represents all community college students in the state. Our Vice President of External Affairs participates in regional and statewide decision-making every day.

ASG oversees and supports SBCC's 50+ clubs.

CLUB CHARTERING
Students who wish to form a new club must submit a charter to the ASG for approval. Existing clubs must also resubmit their charter to ASG each semester to remain active.

CLUB GRANTS
All SBCC clubs have the opportunity to receive funds from ASG that they may use to organize events, projects, and activities. The current limit for club grants is $200 per semester. Clubs that are interested should fill out an application.

INTER-CLUB COUNCIL
One representative from each active club serves on the Inter-Club Council, a body that discusses important club issues and helps make club-related decisions. The ICC meets monthly.

CLUB DAY
ASG organizes Club Day each semester, a colorful and energetic event at which all active clubs are invited to set up booths, recruit new members, and promote their events, projects, and activities.

STUDENT HOUSING
Working closely with school officials and the local community, ASG is exploring many different creative solutions to finding affordable and safe housing for all students.

SCHOLARSHIPS & ACADEMIC GRANTS
Adding to the scholarship it already funds, ASG hopes to offer more scholarships to SBCC students this semester, in addition to academic grants for research and development projects.

VOTER REGISTRATION
Every two years, ASG plays a critical role on campus to ensure that as many students as possible are not only registered to vote, but informed in doing so.

GENDER-NEUTRAL RESTROOMS
ASG is working to establish multi-stall gender neutral restrooms on campus, working with faculty and the Board of Trustees to ensure that Title IX is appropriately implemented at SBCC.

STUDENT EMERGENCY RELIEF
ASG has put aside a substantial amount of funds in the event of emergencies for SBCC students. Affected students who need monetary relief are encouraged to apply.

OPEN TEXTBOOKS
ASG is working to dramatically reduce and even eliminate textbook costs for SBCC students by encouraging faculty to use Open Educational Resources (OER) in their classes.
